Frequently asked questions about Anashield
What does Anashield do?
Anashield is a European defence technology company based in Copenhagen, Denmark. It develops integrated counter-drone systems that detect, classify, locate and intercept drone threats, combining passive acoustic sensing with ground, maritime, airborne and mobile sensors. Its solutions serve defence, civil defence and critical infrastructure.
How does acoustic drone detection work?
Every drone produces a distinctive acoustic signature. Anashield's sensor nodes listen passively with 360° coverage, and onboard AI classifies the sound as a drone directly on the sensor. Distributed nodes then combine their data to locate and track the threat across large areas.
Why use acoustic detection instead of, or alongside, radar and RF?
Passive acoustic sensing can detect low-flying, low-cost and RF-silent drones that radar and RF systems may miss. It emits no signals, so it gives awareness without revealing the sensor's position, and its cost-effective architecture makes it practical to deploy at scale. Anashield uses acoustics as the foundation and fuses it with cameras, radar, RF, human reports and external systems.
Can Anashield detect drones that don't use radio signals?
Yes. Because acoustic sensing listens for the drone itself rather than its radio link, it can detect RF-silent drones, including autonomous ones, that RF-based detection systems may not see.
Does the system work when GPS or mobile networks are jammed?
Yes. Anashield is designed to keep operating when GNSS, cloud or mobile networks are degraded or unavailable. AI runs on each sensor rather than in a central data centre, the distributed network has no single point of failure, and alternative communication pathways keep sensors connected when 4G and 5G fail.
What products does Anashield offer?
AnaCenter (command, control and predictive intelligence), AnaGrid (distributed ground sensing nodes), AnaBuoy (maritime sensing for ports, coastlines and offshore sites), AnaShare (a mobile app that turns smartphones into sensing nodes), AnaDongle (plug-in acoustic and RF sensing with backup communications for phones) and AnaDrones (Glider for long-endurance ISR, and Tactical for rapid response and drone interception).
What is AnaCenter?
AnaCenter is Anashield's command and control platform. It fuses data from all sensors and external systems into one real-time operational picture, uses AI to classify threats and predict trajectories and impact areas, and coordinates alerts and interception. It can run off grid, on premises, or in sovereign, private or hybrid cloud.
How does Anashield protect airports, ports and energy sites?
For critical infrastructure, Anashield combines fixed AnaGrid nodes, maritime AnaBuoy sensors and personnel equipped with AnaShare and AnaDongle into one detection network across multiple sites. AnaCenter provides a unified picture on land and at sea, with backup communications if conventional networks fail.
How can citizens help detect drones?
With the AnaShare app, citizens, security staff and soldiers can report drone sightings with video, audio and location. Reports from multiple users are combined to validate threats and reduce false alarms, and authorities can send targeted alerts back to people in affected areas. AnaShare for iOS and Android is launching soon, and organisations can request early access.
Can Anashield intercept drones, or only detect them?
Both. AnaCenter turns a validated track into action: tasking airborne assets, alerting people, or handing off to the operator's own response. The Tactical drone is designed to intercept hostile drones as part of the integrated system.
Is Anashield's system cost-effective compared with other counter-drone systems?
Defending against a low-cost drone often costs many times more than the drone itself. Anashield's acoustic-first, distributed architecture is designed to make detection affordable at scale, from a single site to nationwide coverage, without heavy infrastructure or large specialised teams.
Is the data private?
Yes. AnaDongle and the sensor network are threat-focused and don't continuously record audio. Only relevant, validated information is shared across the network rather than raw sensor data, and Anashield processes personal data under GDPR.
